4Dx Plus test stats:
The 4Dx Plus test is a simple blood test that checks for the following diseases in your dog: Heartworm disease (transmitted via the Mosquito), Lyme, Ehrlichia & Anaplasmosis (transmitted via ticks). This screening only takes a few drops of blood with results in 10 minutes! It is recommended to have this test done on your pet once a year to screen for these diseases. Whether your pet is on a heartworm preventative year round, vaccinated against lyme disease, or even if you use a recommended flea and tick product no product is 100%. If your dog happens to test positive for Lyme disease, it is still recommended to vaccinate against the disease, as dogs can become REINFECTED by another tick.
For last year alone we had 61 confirmed cases of Lyme disease and 36 confirmed cases of Anaplasmosis!
What's the best way to protect your pet from contracting any of these diseases? The key is PREVENTION! Using a veterinarian approved flea and tick preventative such as Vectra3D, Frontline Plus, K-9 Advantix, etc. will help protect your pet from those nasty vectors that transmit disease. There is also a vaccination available to protect your dog from Lyme disease! The single-most important method of protecting your pet is to do a thorough tick check after you pet has been outside, whether it's to go hunting, play or even just a "quick out to go potty". Any pet exposed to grass, trees, weeds, etc (whether you live in town or out in the country) is at risk.
